Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s North Central zone have reaffirmed their commitment to unity and electoral success ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a well-attended Zonal Congress held in Lafia.
The congress, which took place on Wednesday at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Nasarawa State Government House, brought together governors from the region, top party leaders, and delegates. Participants collectively expressed their determination to strengthen the party’s structure and sustain support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu beyond 2027.
A key highlight of the gathering was the adoption of a new North Central zonal executive council through a voice vote. In a significant political move, delegates also endorsed President Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The motion was moved by Senator George Akume and seconded by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Speaking after the congress, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia emphasized ongoing security collaboration among Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States. He noted that enhanced intelligence sharing among the states has already contributed to improved peace and stability in border communities.
Governor Alia also addressed prevailing economic challenges, including rising fuel prices, while expressing optimism that the situation would improve in the near future.
Party leaders, including Senator Akume, commended the North Central region for its role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity. They urged citizens to mobilize grassroots support for the APC as preparations for the next election cycle intensify.
Newly elected zonal officials, among them Vice Chairman Alhaji Maazu Bawa, pledged to uphold inclusive leadership and remain committed to the party’s ideals. Meanwhile, the party’s national leadership charged them to work diligently to ensure the APC maintains its dominance in the region.
