President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to formally swear in Mr. Taiwo Oyedele today as Nigeria’s new Minister of State for Finance at a ceremony scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Oyedele’s appointment follows his nomination by the president to replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who was recently reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. Her latest redeployment marks the third ministerial role she has held since the current administration took office.
Before his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts aimed at reviewing and modernising Nigeria’s tax system as part of the government’s wider economic reform agenda.
The 50-year-old economist and accountant is from Ikaram-Akoko in Ondo State. He began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, earning a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.
He has also attended executive education programmes at globally recognised institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science in South Africa, and the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.
Before entering public service, Oyedele spent over two decades at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, advising governments and multinational organisations on tax policy and fiscal reforms.
Beyond his professional career, he is active in academia. Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and also serves as a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School, contributing to research and policy discussions on taxation, public finance and economic reform.
