Sowore Joins Protests in Aba Demanding Release of Nnamdi Kanu

Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate, has joined a protest march in Aba, Abia State, demanding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The protest, dubbed “One Million Man March,” aims to pressure the government to free Kanu, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism charges in November 2025.
The protesters, carrying banners and chanting slogans, marched through the streets of Aba, expressing solidarity with Kanu and calling for his unconditional release. Sowore, who has been mobilizing support for the protest, described it as a peaceful and lawful demand for justice and an end to selective justice in Nigeria.
The protest has garnered support from various groups, including Igbo leaders, monarchs, and opposition parties, who argue that has been a miscarriage of justice in Kanu’s case.
Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism-related charges, including treason and inciting violence. His detention has been widely condemned, with many calling for his release and dialogue to address the underlying issues in the South-East region.
