The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State that additional operational bases will be established to strengthen efforts aimed at eliminating criminal activities in the state.
Disu gave the assurance during his first operational visit to Kwara since assuming office. The visit took him to Ilorin, where he met with officers of the state police command and other security stakeholders.
The police chief revealed that he had earlier spent about three weeks in the state as part of a tactical team deployed to address the growing insecurity affecting some communities.
According to him, the visit reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace and order across the state. He noted that he was familiar with Kwara and its security challenges and pledged to do everything within his power to ensure stability returns.
While addressing police personnel and stakeholders, Disu commended residents and community leaders for providing useful information that has helped security agencies in their fight against crime. He urged citizens, particularly traditional institutions, to strengthen cooperation with the police to ensure criminals are pushed out of the state.
“The criminals cannot take our land from us. It is our land and we must not allow them to take it,” he said.
Disu also expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his continuous support to the police in tackling insecurity.
He further assured officers under his command that the leadership of the force would look into the challenges they face while carrying out their duties, acknowledging the risks involved in policing.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekimi Ojo, commended traditional rulers for their support to the police and appealed for even greater collaboration from other traditional institutions across Kwara State.
