Appeal Court Nullifies Ibadan PDP Convention, Affirms Suspension of Anyanwu, Ajibade

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025, affirming the suspension of key party officials, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary; Hon. Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary; and Kamaldeen Ajibade, National Legal Adviser.

The court ruled that the convention was invalid due to non-compliance with the party’s constitution and electoral regulations. Specifically, the PDP failed to serve proper notice of the convention to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and didn’t hold valid congresses in over 14 states.

The decision upholds an earlier Federal High Court judgment, which restrained INEC from recognizing the outcome of the convention. The Appeal Court also awarded N2 million in costs against the appellants.

The ruling is seen as a significant setback for the faction of the party led by Governor Seyi Makinde, which had backed the Ibadan convention.

The court has maintained that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid national convention.
