Obi Joins ADC, Says 2027 Election Will Be Nigerians Versus Bad Leadership

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said the 2027 general election will be a defining moment for Nigerians to stand up against poor leadership.

Obi spoke on Saturday in Anambra State after officially registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The former Anambra governor, who has already indicated interest in contesting the presidency again in 2027, urged Nigerians to take part in the party’s ongoing online membership registration.

He said the election would go beyond political parties, describing it as a struggle by ordinary citizens to demand better governance.

“The election in 2027 will be Nigerians against bad leadership. I assure you, it will be Nigerians fighting for justice,” Obi said while addressing supporters.

Obi also spoke about the South-East’s place in Nigeria’s political landscape, saying the region deserves the chance to produce the country’s president. According to him, the South-East has consistently shown commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development.

He noted that people from the region live and run businesses across the country, contributing to the growth of different communities.

“The South-East is part of Nigeria and wants to serve. You will find people from the region living and working in every part of the country,” he said.

Obi added that his vision for Nigeria is a country where opportunities are not determined by political connections.

“We want a new Nigeria where a child of nobody can succeed without knowing anybody,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of tackling poverty, noting that improving people’s living conditions would help reduce insecurity across the country.

According to him, lifting more Nigerians out of poverty would naturally lead to a drop in crime and violence.

Obi further encouraged party members and supporters to recruit more Nigerians into the ADC, urging them to spread the party’s message across their communities.

Also registering with the party were Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central, and former lawmaker and presidential aide Ben Obi.

The party had earlier launched the registration exercise in Awka before members returned to their wards to register and mobilise new supporters.

Obi registered at Agulu Ward 2 in Anaocha Local Government Area, while Umeh completed his registration at Aguluzigbo Ward 1 in the same council area. Ben Obi registered in Agulu Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
