Bandits’ Brutal Attack Forces Pali Town Residents to Flee
A wave of terror swept through Pali town in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State last night as bandits launched a brutal attack on the community. The attack has left residents with no choice but to abandon their homes and belongings, seeking safety in neighboring towns and states.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately, causing widespread panic and destruction. The attack is part of a recent surge in banditry in the area, with multiple communities affected, including Belen Lafiya, Digare, and Gwana.
“I lost my uncle while we were running,” said a resident, who preferred anonymity. “They first dislodged us from our hamlet close to Digare village. We sought refuge in Digare, but they attacked us again, forcing us to cross into Gombe State for refuge”.
The Bauchi State Government has confirmed the attack and assured residents that security personnel have been deployed to the area to combat the bandits. Governor Bala Mohammed visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Kashere, Gombe State, describing the development as unprecedented in the state’s history.
The attack has left many families without food, shelter, or livelihoods. The government has announced a donation of N50 million and several truckloads of food items to the IDPs.
The Nigerian Army has taken over security operations in Alkaleri LGA to combat the bandits, who are estimated to be around 10,000 heavily armed individuals.
The people of Pali town are calling on the government to provide security and support to enable them to return to their homes and rebuild their lives.
