Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has shared his predictions for several fifth-round fixtures in the FA Cup scheduled for this weekend.
Shearer believes Newcastle United will edge out Manchester City when both sides clash on Saturday night at St James’ Park.
The former England striker also tipped Chelsea and Arsenal to progress from their respective matches against Wrexham A.F.C. and Mansfield Town F.C..
Speaking to Metro (British newspaper), Shearer said Arsenal should comfortably defeat Mansfield Town even if manager Mikel Arteta rotates his squad.
“I guess Mikel Arteta will make changes, but I even think with the changes that come in, they’ll still have the quality. I don’t see a shock at Mansfield. I think Arsenal will go through with ease,” he said, predicting a win for Arsenal.
On the clash between Wrexham and Chelsea, Shearer noted that the atmosphere at the Racecourse Ground would be intense but believes Chelsea will still have enough quality to secure victory regardless of the team selection.
Commenting on the Newcastle versus Manchester City tie, he added that the contest is usually close but backed Newcastle to narrowly progress to the next round.
