Atiku Condemns Attack on ADC Office in Rivers, Calls for Independent Probe

Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, describing it as a “dangerous development” that threatens democratic norms in Nigeria. The office was set ablaze by gunmen on Friday, prompting Atiku to call for an independent investigation into the incident to ensure perpetrators are prosecuted ¹.

Atiku referenced a separate unresolved attack on ADC leaders, including Mr. Peter Obi, in Benin, Edo State, stressing that the outcome of that investigation is still awaited. He urged the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress administration to prioritize the protection of opposition lives and properties, noting this as “the minimum expectation of Nigerians” ¹.

The attack occurred ahead of a planned visit by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to the community, where he was expected to formally register with the ADC. Amaechi’s convoy was also attacked, but security operatives intervened to repel the attackers ².
