The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prioritize addressing its image crisis and restoring public trust in the electoral process, rather than focusing on internal party disputes.
NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, stated that the greatest cause of voter apathy in Nigeria is not internal party friction, but rather the widespread perception that INEC is complicit in subverting the will of the people. Johnson urged INEC to demonstrate absolute transparency and prove itself as an unbiased arbiter, saying that until then, no amount of internal party stability will bring Nigerians back to the polling units.
The NNPP’s position comes as INEC announces a review of its regulations and guidelines for political parties, aiming to enhance integrity and transparency in the electoral process.
