Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the Senate, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former Bayelsa State governor made the announcement during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
According to Dickson, deep internal divisions within the PDP have weakened the party, saying the once-broad “umbrella” can no longer accommodate many of its members, including himself.
He also expressed concern that the party has lost its strong voice on national matters, noting that persistent leadership disputes have significantly crippled its operations.
Dickson said the NDC, recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), now has the potential to emerge as the country’s desired opposition platform.
He urged Nigerians to identify with and register under the new party, expressing hope that it could contribute to building a better Nigeria.
