President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the renewed appointment took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.
Dr Audi was first appointed to head the NSCDC in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial tenure officially ended last Friday, coinciding with activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the corps’ national headquarters in Abuja.
With the new appointment, Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday, March 2, armed with a renewed mandate to strengthen the agency’s role in national security.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has tasked the NSCDC boss with repositioning the corps to take on a more prominent security role, particularly as the police concentrate on tackling banditry, kidnapping and terrorism across the country.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi began his educational journey in the state before obtaining a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, in 1987. He later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, obtained in 1995, a Master’s in Public Administration from University of Calabar in 2001, and a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014. In 2019, he added a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University to his credentials.
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after completing his basic officer training in 1997. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving in various state commands before his promotion to Commandant in 2007 and subsequent deployment to the office of the Commandant-General at the national headquarters in Abuja.
