Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has boldly declared that he would step down from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure a second term in 2027, effectively tying his political future to the president’s re-election bid.
Speaking in a Friday interview on African Independent Television (AIT), Okpebholo linked the performance of his administration in Edo State to the direction of the federal government. He dismissed suggestions that his statement was political posturing, insisting it was a genuine show of support for Tinubu’s leadership and policies.
“The developmental progress we’ve achieved in Edo reflects the broader vision of the federal administration,” the governor said.
Okpebholo expressed confidence that ongoing infrastructure and social development projects across the state would win voters’ hearts in 2027. “The projects speak for themselves. Tinubu will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t, I will resign as governor,” he declared.
He also emphasized his grassroots approach to politics, distancing himself from thuggery and highlighting the influence of political mentors like Chief Aneni.
