The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured a two-month jail term without the option of a fine for a motorist arrested for driving against traffic on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, confirmed the development in a statement issued by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.
According to the statement, the offender was apprehended for the dangerous act of driving one-way on the busy expressway, thereby endangering the lives of other road users. The Corps described the conviction as a strong warning to motorists who deliberately violate traffic regulations.
Shehu Mohammed reiterated the FRSC’s zero tolerance for traffic offences that pose serious risks to public safety, particularly the menace of driving against traffic, commonly referred to as “one-way” driving.
He emphasized that the Corps would continue to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure that traffic violators are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The FRSC urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times, stressing that reckless driving behaviours would attract stiff penalties to serve as deterrence to others.
