Tinubu Intervenes Again in Rivers Political Crisis, Wike Says It Will Be Final Time

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the lingering political crisis between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike disclosed that the President’s latest involvement marked the second and final intervention in the dispute between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

According to him, President Tinubu acted in his capacity as a father figure concerned about peace and stability in Rivers State, stressing that all parties involved have been directed to abide by the President’s decisions.

“This is the second time Mr President is intervening and I believe by the grace of God that this will be the last time Mr President will intervene,” Wike said. “I have told them to obey Mr President and I know that they would not hesitate.”

Wike added that the governor would also play his part to ensure a lasting resolution to the crisis, expressing optimism that Rivers residents would no longer witness such political discord.

“And I know that the governor would carry out his own part to make sure that this is the final time that Rivers people will hear this kind of discord,” he stated.

The FCT minister’s comments followed reports that President Tinubu, Wike, and Governor Fubara held a closed-door meeting on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The reports further claimed that after the meeting, Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in an effort to seek reconciliation and make amends as part of moves to resolve the crisis.

The political standoff between the Rivers State governor and the state House of Assembly has generated tension in recent months, drawing national attention and prompting presidential intervention aimed at restoring stability and effective governance in the state.
