Tinubu Vows to Defeat Terrorism, Strengthen Economy at NEC Conference

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will defeat terrorism and banditry, describing the security crisis as unacceptable and alien to the nation’s values.

He gave the assurance during his opening remarks at the ongoing National Executive Council conference on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development. Tinubu said insecurity has remained a major concern for leaders across the country but stressed that his government is determined to strengthen the capacity of security agencies to restore peace.

According to him, the persistence of terrorism and banditry poses a serious economic burden, noting that national development cannot thrive without addressing the security challenge. He expressed confidence that with resilience and determination, the country would overcome the threat.

The president also commended several state governors, particularly those of Borno, Katsina, and Kaduna states, for their efforts in safeguarding lives and defending Nigeria’s freedom and territorial integrity.

On the economy, Tinubu said his administration is focused on reinforcing macroeconomic stability through improved revenue generation, stronger public financial management, and better policy coordination. He added that the government has prioritised infrastructure development in key sectors such as transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing, and irrigation to drive inclusive growth.

Tinubu further disclosed that his government has expanded social investment and human capital programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable households, women, youths, and small businesses. He said the Renewed Hope Ward Development Project reflects a bottom-up approach to national development and grassroots inclusion.

He emphasized that these achievements are the result of collaboration among the federal, state, and local governments, as well as development partners and the private sector.

The president also highlighted the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030 as the next phase of Nigeria’s development agenda, describing it as evidence-based, realistic, and focused on inclusive, balanced, and environmentally sustainable growth. He noted that the plan prioritises economic diversification, human capital development, subnational competitiveness, and climate resilience, adding that its success will depend largely on effective implementation at the state and local government levels.
