Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has denied reports suggesting that he has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
In a statement issued through his Media Adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom dismissed the reports making the rounds as a fabrication aimed at creating confusion about his political affiliation. He said the claim of his alleged defection was baseless and mischievous, accusing political opponents of sponsoring the narrative due to discomfort over his continued relevance in Benue State politics.
The immediate past governor further alleged that the promoters of the report went as far as producing a fake APC membership card, which they falsely attributed to him and circulated online in a bid to lend credibility to their claims.
“This act is not only irresponsible but also exposes the depth of desperation among those behind it,” the statement read, stressing that the purported defection exists only in the imagination of its promoters.
Ortom reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing that he remains “a proud, committed, and influential member” of the party. He also restated his standing within the PDP, noting that he continues to serve as the leader of the party in Benue State and a respected member of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The former governor urged members of the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on verified information from credible sources.
