US Congressman Warns Against Nigeria’s Destabilisation, Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Persecuted Christians

A United States Congressman, Congressman Riley M. Moore , has cautioned against any moves capable of destabilising Nigeria, warning that such actions would worsen insecurity and further endanger Christians and other vulnerable communities across the country.

Moore, who recently visited Nigeria, said he held multiple high-level meetings with Nigerian government officials, church leaders, humanitarian organisations, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a bid to gain firsthand understanding of the widespread persecution of Christians and the broader security challenges facing the country.

In a statement following his engagements, the lawmaker noted that discussions about dividing Nigeria did not feature in any serious manner during his meetings, stressing that attempts to embolden separatist movements would only harm Christians, particularly those living in the North and the Middle Belt.

According to him, a destabilised Nigeria would create opportunities for terrorist groups to expand their activities, making Christians less safe not only within Nigeria but across the African continent.

Moore reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the protection of lives, saying he would continue to work towards saving “our brothers and sisters in Christ and indeed all Nigerians who are suffering from the instability caused by terrorists throughout Nigeria.”

He also welcomed the recent security cooperation agreement between the United States and Nigeria, describing it as an important step towards addressing the violence and strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

“The agreement is a significant move in tackling insecurity in Nigeria and deepening the partnership between our two great nations,” he said.

Moore concluded by expressing goodwill to Nigerians, adding, “God bless you all.”
