National Grid Stabilised After Partial Disturbance – NISO

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has confirmed that the national electricity grid has been fully stabilised, with power supply restored across all affected areas.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, NISO provided an update on the partial system disturbance recorded earlier in the day. According to the operator, the incident occurred at about 10:48 a.m. when a voltage disturbance originated from the Gombe Transmission Substation.

The disturbance quickly spread across the network, impacting the Jebba, Kainji and Ayede transmission substations. NISO explained that the incident led to the tripping of some transmission lines and generating units, resulting in a partial system collapse.

“Appropriate corrective actions were immediately implemented to stabilise the system and restore normal operations,” the statement said, adding that restoration work commenced at about 11:11 a.m. and has since been completed.

NISO stressed that the incident did not amount to a total grid collapse, contrary to reports by some media outlets, noting that only a section of the grid was affected.

The system operator advised that further details are available on its official website, www.niso.org.ng
