Before assuming public leadership positions, the best leaders pass through the crucible of personal tests and trials which prepare them.
Between 2020 and 2024, Honorable Terwase Orbunde walked through some of the most difficult moments any man could face.
He successfully battled COVID-19, survived a fatal car accident, and escaped a deadly gun attack. Through it all, he remained steadfast, courageous, and committed to the service of Benue State.
In July 2020, while serving as Chief of Staff to the Benue State Governor, Orbunde tested positive for COVID-19 at the height of the global pandemic. After receiving treatment and observing all medical protocols, he recovered and returned to work stronger than before. In his own words, he described himself as “God’s Testimonial,” pledging to continue supporting efforts to protect the people of Benue from the virus.
On December 14, 2021, tragedy struck again. Returning from a political event in Gboko, his vehicle was involved in a serious accident along the Makurdi Gboko road. The crash left him and his aides injured and hospitalized. Though one life was sadly lost in the other vehicle, Orbunde survived what many described as a miraculous escape.
Perhaps the most terrifying experience came on April 12, 2024, when armed gunmen attacked him in Makurdi. His wife Abigail and her assistant, Patience Adokwu, were abducted, while Orbunde was shot in the arm after inspecting work on their farm along Mobile Barracks road in Makurdi.
After four painful days of uncertainty and negotiations, the captives regained their freedom. Instead of giving in to fear, Orbunde emerged with even greater determination to fight the insecurity threatening Benue State.
Reflecting on the ordeal, he expressed deep gratitude to God and to all who stood by his family, declaring his resolve to stand firmly against crime and violence.
Today, Honorable Terwase Orbunde is offering himself to serve as Governor of Benue State in 2027. Having personally experienced the pain of insecurity, he understands better than most what the people are going through. His mission is clear: to protect lives and property, and bring real development to Benue.
Benue does not just need another politician, it needs a leader tested by fire, shaped by experience, and driven by compassion.
