Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has revealed plans to refresh Nigeria’s national team squad should the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decide to retain him after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025, guided Nigeria to the semi-final stage of the tournament before the Super Eagles suffered a defeat to host nation Morocco. The team will now face Egypt on Saturday evening in the third-place playoff match.
Speaking during his pre-match interview ahead of the clash with Egypt, the Malian tactician disclosed that strengthening the squad would be a major priority if his contract is extended beyond the tournament.
“If God gives me the chance to be the coach after this tournament, I’ve to bring some players,” Chelle said. “My dream is to have twenty-two players, and all of them can take on the opposition. There is a lot of work to achieve that.”
Chelle’s comments suggest a possible rebuilding phase for the Super Eagles, aimed at improving squad depth and competitiveness across all departments as Nigeria looks ahead to future international competitions.
