Dele Momodu, a senior figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the party has the potential to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Thursday, Momodu said the ADC could achieve this with prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal.
He emphasized the importance of unity and strategy, saying: “There will always be hardliners in politics. At this stage, no one should insist solely on their candidate. We must avoid acrimony and focus on agreement.”
Momodu revealed he has discussed matters privately and publicly with Peter Obi, but strategically, he would back Atiku for his experience and exposure. He highlighted the party’s strong lineup, noting that ADC already includes two of the top three candidates from the last election, Obi and Atiku, giving the party a significant advantage.
He added: “If we manage ourselves well and deploy candidates who can generate the necessary momentum, we have the potential to defeat APC. It is not impossible to challenge Tinubu, especially with careful coordination and vigilance during the election process.”
