Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have appealed to their colleagues to abandon the ongoing impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made the call just days after two other legislators publicly opposed the impeachment, advocating dialogue and restraint instead.
Earlier on Monday, Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo and Peter Abbey had broken ranks with the Assembly leadership, urging fellow lawmakers to approach the political crisis with caution and mutual understanding.
The legislators advised that alternatives to impeachment should be considered, suggesting that reconciliation remains possible amid the growing tension between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The appeal was made during a press conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Addressing journalists, Nwankwo, the Minority Leader of the House and representative of Omuma State Constituency, disclosed that appeals had been received from prominent leaders within and outside the state, calling for restraint.
He urged his colleagues to reconsider the impeachment process and pursue peaceful and constructive solutions.
Abbey, who represents Degema State Constituency, acknowledged that the governor may have breached certain constitutional provisions but noted that errors can occur. He emphasised that Governor Fubara must also take responsibility to ensure such violations do not happen again.
