Nigeria’s Super Eagles have warned they will not travel to Marrakech for their upcoming AFCON match against Algeria unless all outstanding match bonuses are paid by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Reports from journalists on ground in Morocco indicate that the players are demanding immediate settlement of their entitlements before honouring the fixture. Sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel and BBC’s Olúwashínà Okeleji both confirmed the standoff.
Okeleji disclosed that players and coaching staff are still owed win bonuses from four matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique. While stressing that the team remains committed to the tournament, he noted that the squad will neither train nor travel on Thursday if the issue is not resolved.
Efforts to get a response from the NFF were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to its Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, went unanswered.
This is not the first time the team has taken such a stand. In November, the Super Eagles similarly threatened to boycott a World Cup qualifier against Gabon over unpaid allowances.
Another journalist with the team, Pooja, also confirmed the situation on X, saying the players and officials skipped training in Morocco due to unresolved payment issues, describing the development as “really sad.”
