Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has urged Nigeria to approach their AFCON Round of 16 clash against Mozambique with focus and intensity.
Nigeria will face Mozambique on Monday night with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. Oliseh, however, warned that the knockout stage leaves no room for complacency.
Speaking on Global Football Insight, Oliseh said the Super Eagles must treat Mozambique with the same seriousness they showed in their previous match against Uganda.
“Every team is under pressure at this stage of the tournament. In the Round of 16, there are no weak teams, and you cannot afford to underestimate anyone,” he said.
According to him, the Eagles must start the game strongly and maintain the same spirit and discipline displayed in their last outing.
“The Mozambique game has to be taken seriously from the first minute. The players need to bring the same energy and mindset they showed against Uganda,” Oliseh added.
While describing Nigeria as favourites, Oliseh cautioned against overconfidence, noting that Mozambique are a dangerous side despite finishing third in their group.
“The Super Eagles are favourites, so there’s no need to overcomplicate things—just play your game and aim to qualify. But anyone who underrates Mozambique should be prepared for an early flight home,” he warned.
He concluded that a win over Mozambique would not only secure qualification but also strengthen Nigeria’s tactical confidence going forward.
