The Nigerian Army has rejected claims circulating in a viral video alleging that troops deployed under Operation MESA in Ogun State were denied their entitlements and that soldiers stationed along border corridors extort motorists.
The Army described the allegations as false, malicious and deliberately misleading.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Idereghi Samuel Akari. He said the claims were aimed at discrediting the Nigerian Army and undermining the morale of troops deployed to safeguard lives and property in the state.
Akari stressed that all personnel participating in Operation MESA in Ogun State receive their due entitlements in line with established military regulations and welfare policies. He added that the Army maintains strict oversight mechanisms to ensure prompt payment and adequate welfare for its personnel.
On the allegation of extortion along border corridors, the Army spokesman stated that the Nigerian Army has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, including extortion or harassment of civilians. He noted that any soldier found engaging in such acts would face severe disciplinary action in accordance with military laws.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the viral video and other unverified reports, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of eroding public confidence in security operations.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and the protection of citizens, while encouraging the public to report any genuine complaints through appropriate channels for investigation and necessary action.
