Kano Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Cattle Rustlers in Intelligence-Led Operations

 

The Kano State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping and cattle rustling with the arrest of five suspects in intelligence-led operations across Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrests were carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) and other tactical units, acting on credible intelligence and under the directive of the Commissioner of Police.

The statement disclosed that police operatives cordoned off Rahma Round in Kiru LGA, where four suspects were arrested during a targeted operation. One of the suspects, Shafiu Ibrahim, aged 25, from Auchanawa Village, Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reportedly confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and to involvement in several cattle rustling activities.

A TVS motorcycle was recovered from Shafiu Ibrahim during the operation, while the remaining three suspects are currently under investigation for various other criminal offences.

In a related development, a joint team comprising personnel from the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested one Bishir Umar, aged 24, of Karaduwa Local Government Area, Katsina State. He was apprehended at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA, Kano State.

Police said Bishir Umar confessed that he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles while armed with a rifle to carry out criminal activities. He was arrested while on surveillance, while his accomplices reportedly escaped with the motorcycles and the rifle.

The Kano State Police Command assured the public that all the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
