President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, to Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar.
The President disclosed the decision on Saturday during a condolence visit to the family of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi at his mosque in Bauchi State, following the scholar’s passing.
Tinubu described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a towering religious figure whose life was devoted to the promotion of peace, Islamic scholarship and moral values, noting that the renaming of the institution was a recognition of his immense contributions to religious education and national unity.
According to the President, the honour reflects the Federal Government’s appreciation of leaders who positively impacted society through learning, tolerance and service to humanity.
Family members, religious leaders and supporters of the late cleric welcomed the announcement, describing it as a fitting tribute to a man widely respected across Nigeria and beyond for his teachings and spiritual leadership.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who founded the Tijjaniyya movement in Nigeria, was one of the country’s most influential Islamic scholars, with millions of followers and students across Africa and the wider Islamic world.
