The Oyo State Fire Service on Thursday announced the recovery of the body of a 65-year-old man from a deep well in a tragic incident at Oke-Oga Atipe, Idi-Aga, Ibadan.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the state’s fire agency.
Details of the Recovery Operation
According to Akinwande, the agency received a distress call at exactly 09:42 AM on Thursday, December 4, 2025, reporting that a person had fallen into the well.
“The agency’s officers, led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen, were promptly deployed to the scene. On getting to the scene, it was discovered that a man of about 65 years of age had fallen into a deep well,” Akinwande said.
Following the successful retrieval of the body, the victim was immediately handed over to a team of policemen led by SP Idowu from the Agugu Police Division for documentation and investigation.
This fatality marks the second such tragic incident in recent months, as Hobnob News previously reported the recovery of a 45-year-old man’s body from a deep well in Iseyin in November 2025.
Urgent Call for Safety and Mental Health Awareness
In light of the recurring incidents, the agency chairman emphasized the crucial need for public awareness regarding safety and mental well-being.
He urged members of the public to observe stringent safety precautions in their daily activities and to avoid depression. The chairman also used the opportunity to advise property owners on safety measures, stressing the importance of equipping buildings with fire extinguishers, especially as the dry season approaches.
