A 44-year-old man named Obi Anthony Okoshuku has appeared in court after his arrest for allegedly carrying crystal meth. He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court on 08 December 2025.
He was arrested in the early hours of Friday 28 November 2025. Police in Siyabuswa say they stopped his vehicle around 04h00 and discovered drugs with an estimated street value of R110000.
Officers explained that they had been patrolling the R568 route between Maphotla and Siyabuswa when they noticed a white Nissan NP200 with Gauteng number plates. The driver reportedly ignored an order to stop, which prompted a chase until the bakkie was forced to a halt.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two containers filled with a white substance suspected to be crystal meth. The containers were hidden inside bags. Police subsequently impounded the vehicle as part of their investigation.
Captain Mpho Nonyane Mpe confirmed the arrest and said the case is receiving attention from the authorities. She commended the officers for their alertness and said their quick action prevented the suspected drugs from entering local communities.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, said the arrest and seizure represent an important step against drug trafficking in the province.
