‘WAIT TILL 2027’: MURIC Fires Back at Cleric Demanding VP Shettima Vacate Seat

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), a faith-based Islamic human rights organization, has issued a fierce rebuke to Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, Regional Leader of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), over his recent public demand for Vice President Kashim Shettima to resign.

The controversy stems from an interview Reverend Dachomo granted on Monday, December 1, where he alleged that the current Muslim-Muslim ticket constitutes a ‘genocide’ against Christians in Nigeria and demanded that the Vice President vacate his seat for a Christian successor.

MURIC Slams ‘Emotive’ Outburst
Responding to the cleric’s comments, MURIC Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, released a statement accusing Dachomo of being obsessed with “hyperbolic articulation” and dismissing the claim as lacking grounding in democratic principles.

“MURIC finds this outburst emotive, explosive and kindergarten. It is articulated religiousity cum religious masturbation,” Akintola stated.

Professor Akintola argued that the cleric’s demand amounted to “a denial of the principles of democracy and the due process painstakingly taken by Nigerians from the electioneering campaigns down to the elections.

MURIC further challenged the cleric’s request, asserting that it demonstrated a “lack of faith in the long judicial exercise” that affirmed the election outcome. The group firmly insisted that any change in the political leadership must occur through constitutional means.

“How can anyone suggest the removal of the vice president who emerged from a free, fair and credible election? If Dachomo wants to be the vice president of Nigeria, he must follow the well-known democratic process. He must wait for 2027,” Akintola stated.

MURIC concluded by dismissing the linkage of the Muslim-Muslim ticket to “Christian genocide,” suggesting that the cleric was suffering from “paranoia” to see the political reality as an existential threat.
