The Edo State House of Assembly (EHA) has summoned one of its members, Honourable Natasha Osawaru Irobosa (Egor Constituency), over a case of alleged public misconduct that leaders fear has brought the legislative chamber into disrepute.
Hon. Natasha, who is also the wife of popular Nigerian singer 2Face Idibia, is accused of misconduct stemming from recent online reports regarding a public dispute between herself and her husband in London that reportedly led to the singer’s arrest.
Speaker Issues Stern Warning
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, December 2, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, expressed serious dismay that the lawmaker’s actions have attracted negative national and international attention to the House.
“Distinguished members, of recent, this Honourable House, with cerebral and highly educated members, have been dragged to the mud for too long by our colleague, Honorable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru,” the Speaker stated, confirming to Hobnob News that the matter had been trending negatively across multiple media platforms.
The Speaker stressed the need to preserve the legislature’s integrity.
“We want to let the public know that this House is a decent and reputable House… The attitude or the misconduct of a member cannot drag the House to disrepute,” he added.
Legislative Sanctions Imminent
To address the matter, the Speaker officially ordered Hon. Natasha to appear before the House Standing Committee on Ethics and Privileges within one week to defend herself.
During her appearance, the lawmaker will be required to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for the alleged misconduct. The Committee has been directed to report back to the full House on its findings and recommendations within two weeks.
