Hobnob News — A 16-year-old boy and six young girls have been abducted by armed bandits following a late-night attack on Gidan-Bijimi, a community in Kawu Ward of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory.
The attack occurred around 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, when gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed two houses and took the victims away amid heavy gunfire.
A resident of Kawu, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident, saying the attack threw the entire community into panic. He noted that local vigilantes attempted to intervene but were forced to retreat due to the superior firepower of the attackers.
According to Shuaibu, the abducted girls are believed to be between 17 and 23 years old.
“It was around 9:53 p.m. when a call came from Gidan-Bijimi that bandits had invaded the village and abducted six young girls. Unfortunately, my cousin sister was among the victims,” he said.
The incident has caused several residents to flee the community. As of the time of filing this report, the bandits have not made contact.
Attempts by Hobnob News to reach the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not answered.
The attack comes just days after FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, directed security agencies to intensify border surveillance around Abuja. A joint task force involving the police, DSS, military, and other agencies had recently been deployed to strengthen security.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, had earlier charged the team to work collaboratively to curb rising criminal activities, noting that the minister had provided adequate logistics for effective operations.
