Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after departing from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hobnob News gathered that El-Rufai completed his registration and collected his ADC membership card at the party office in U/Sarki Ward, Kaduna State, in the presence of loyal supporters, including former appointees and local government chairmen.
El-Rufai, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had resigned from the APC on March 10, citing a growing disconnect between his personal values and the party’s direction. In his resignation letter, he criticized the APC leadership for abandoning the progressive ideals that underpinned its formation.
“Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” El-Rufai stated at the time.
He also noted that despite raising concerns both publicly and privately, the party ignored his warnings about its trajectory. El-Rufai, who played a key role in the 2013 merger that led to the formation of the APC, lamented that the party had lost its original vision.
This move marks a significant step in the ongoing opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
