Soludo Confident of Victory, Alleges Opponents Engaging in Vote-Buying
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, expressed optimism about his chances in the ongoing governorship election, declaring that he would win if votes are allowed to count.
Soludo cast his vote at exactly 1:25 p.m. at Ofiyi Square, Polling Unit 002, Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area, after being promptly accredited upon arrival.
However, over 400 voters were still waiting to vote at the centre due to delays caused by the use of only one BVAS machine.
Speaking with journalists after voting, Soludo described the election as largely peaceful but noted a few operational challenges in some polling units.
“The election has been relatively peaceful, except for some areas where we’ve had reports of difficulties,” he said. “There were glitches in places like Olumbanasa where the BVAS didn’t function properly, and in Nnewi South where someone was reportedly distributing ₦15,000 per vote, perhaps out of desperation.”
The governor dismissed the alleged vote-buying tactics, insisting that he remains confident of a decisive victory if the electoral process is transparent.
“Even if they share ₦100,000, let the people vote freely and let the votes count. On the basis of one man, one vote, we are confident of a landslide victory,” Soludo stated.
Only APGA, APC present agents in most Awka polling units
In the ongoing Anambra governorship election, only two major political parties — the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) — have been visibly represented in most polling units across the state capital, Awka.
At several polling stations visited, including those in Awka Ward VI (units 010, 024, and 025) located at the Federal Government Technical College (GTC), agents from only the two parties were present.
Mr. John Morah served as the APC agent, while APGA was represented by Mr. Chukwuma Anekwe.
As of 9:23 a.m., voting was reported to be proceeding smoothly at Polling Unit 013 in Registration Area 14, Umueri II, Anambra East Local Government Area.
