Abuja, Nigeria | The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 20, 2025, for the judgment in the terrorism case involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Presiding Judge, Justice James Omotosho, announced the date on Friday, following Kanu’s failure to open his defence after exhausting the six days allocated to him by the court.
Justice Omotosho ruled that since Kanu did not take advantage of the time granted to present his case, he could not claim to have been denied his constitutional right to a fair hearing.
In a dramatic turn, Kanu filed a motion challenging the validity of his trial, arguing that terrorism is no longer a recognised offence in Nigeria, following the repeal of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.
He insisted that no valid charges existed against him and urged the court to dismiss the case and order his release.
The court adjourned for final judgment, which is expected to determine whether Kanu will regain his freedom or continue to face trial on terrorism-related allegations.
