The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State says it has not yet reached any decision on zoning its governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
State Chairman of the party, Sunday Fagbemi, disclosed this during a radio interview monitored by Hobnob News on Friday night, amid growing calls for the governorship slot to be zoned to the Kwara North Senatorial District.
According to Fagbemi, no formal discussions have been held regarding zoning, as such matters remain the prerogative of the party’s national leadership.
He said, “If there will be any zoning, the national executive of the party will give the directive. But as of now, nothing of such is on the table. We have not discussed it because the timetable is not yet out. Anyone interested in contesting for any position has the right to do so.”
The party chairman added that even if a decision is reached at the state level, it would still require ratification from the national secretariat.
“Even if we decide in Kwara that this is what we want, it is still subject to approval from the national leadership,” he clarified.
His statement follows renewed agitation from stakeholders in Kwara North, who insist that the zone should produce the next governor, having never held the position since the return of democracy in 1999.
