The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has announced the commencement of a four-week routine maintenance exercise at the 430-megawatt Geregu Power Plant in Kogi State, aimed at boosting performance and ensuring a more stable power supply to the national grid.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications and External Relations, Emmanuel Ojor, NDPHC said the maintenance exercise, being carried out by Siemens Energy, the plant’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), began earlier this week and will run for about a month.
During an inspection visit to the site on Friday, NDPHC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, said the exercise forms part of the company’s proactive strategy to enhance operational reliability and efficiency.
“This is a planned outage and Siemens has fully mobilised to carry out extended minor inspections, alignment checks, and related works. Geregu’s three Siemens turbine units, with a combined capacity of 430 megawatts, will benefit greatly from this process,” Adighije explained.
She reaffirmed NDPHC’s dedication to maintaining optimal generation capacity across its assets under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), stressing that consistent maintenance is crucial for sustained power delivery and long-term equipment health.
“Our goal is to inject reliable, quality power into the national grid in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for universal electricity access. Scheduled maintenance like this helps us maximise output and revenue while ensuring operational safety,” she added.
Executive Director, Generation, Abdullahi Kassim, noted that while a typical minor inspection takes three weeks, the company allotted four weeks to allow for unforeseen contingencies.
“The machines are in good condition and within operational tolerance limits. We expect to complete the work on schedule,” he said.
On his part, Siemens Energy Site Manager, Atiemie James, commended NDPHC’s management for its support and assured that the inspection will be completed as planned, guaranteeing improved reliability of the facility.
The Geregu Power Plant remains one of NDPHC’s major generation assets, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s electricity mix. The company also revealed plans for similar maintenance across other plants to strengthen power generation nationwide.
