Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Military Base in Borno’s Ngamdu, Casualties Reported

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on a military base in Ngamdu, located in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of Friday.

The assailants, who were said to be in large numbers, targeted troops stationed at the camp along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway.

Motorists and commercial drivers reported that the road in Ngamdu was blocked by the military until about 11:20 a.m. following the attack. One traveller recounted, “I left Damaturu very early, expecting to arrive in Maiduguri around 9 a.m., but when I got to Ngamdu, the road was closed. Some security personnel told us to be patient because there was a problem ahead, but residents said Boko Haram attacked the soldiers and killed some of them.”

Sources in the area confirmed that the terrorists caught the troops off guard. “The attack lasted for hours before the insurgents withdrew, but they killed and wounded some soldiers,” one resident said.

A security source stated that the casualties were fewer than initially reported. “The terrorists attempted an ambush, but our gallant soldiers repelled them after a fierce exchange of fire,” he said. When asked about losses, he added, “Yes, some soldiers were wounded and taken to the hospital, but many insurgents were also killed.”

As of the time of filing this report, the military had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
