Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, widely recognized by his moniker, Sunday Igboho, is actively seeking assistance from the respected Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, regarding a pressing issue that has arisen from the actions of the Federal Government, specifically the freezing of his bank accounts. This controversial measure has raised significant concerns about the treatment of individuals advocating for regional rights within Nigeria.
In a recent engagement, Igboho, along with a group of steadfast supporters, made his way to Ladoja’s residence located in the Bodija area of Ibadan on a warm Monday afternoon. The meeting was not merely a formality; it extended for an impressive duration of 40 minutes, during which the two prominent figures delved deeply into matters of mutual concern.
According to a statement released by Igboho’s media office on Wednesday, their discussions were not limited to his personal dealings with the Federal Government but broadened to encompass critical topics impacting the South-West region. Key issues at hand included rampant insecurity that has plagued various communities within the area, the alarming rise in bandit attacks in certain regions of Kwara State, and the broader implications of these challenges on the fabric of society.
Ladoja, recognized for his influence and status in the region, indicated his willingness to advocate on Igboho’s behalf, understanding that the resolution of these issues is vital not only for Igboho but also for the wider Yoruba community. The meeting underscored the importance of solidarity and collective action in the face of adversity, highlighting Ladoja’s role as a traditional leader willing to engage in matters that transcend mere governance and strike at the very heart of communal safety and welfare. Through this collaboration, both figures aim to address not only the immediate challenges faced by Igboho but also the ongoing crisis of insecurity affecting many innocent lives in the South-West.
“The Olubadan promised to intervene on the challenges faced by Igboho, including his designation as a wanted person and the embargo placed on his bank accounts,” the statement read in part.
In 2021, the Department of State Services, with military support, raided Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, resulting in the deaths of two aides and the arrest of 13, amid allegations of arms stockpiling.
During his visit, Igboho praised Ladoja’s leadership, noting his popularity in Ibadan and Yorubaland, and expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government to enhance regional security.
“Olubadan has always been a father figure to me since his governorship. His reign will undoubtedly foster peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland and Yorubaland,” Igboho stated.
