After two months of industrial action, resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their indefinite strike.
The decision was announced on Wednesday following assurances from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who visited the hospital on September 30, 2025, and pledged government commitment to addressing their demands.
In a letter to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olakulehin Olawale, dated October 1, 2025, the doctors confirmed that full clinical services would resume by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2.
Signed by the association’s President, Dr. Adedokun Stephen, and General Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, the letter emphasised that the suspension was made in good faith but urged sustained commitment from the government.
“This decision was reached in honor of the visit of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and in recognition of his sincere commitment to resolving the longstanding demands of our association. His assurances have been received with optimism and goodwill,” the letter read in part.
The strike, which began on July 29, 2025, was driven by poor working conditions, lack of essential medical equipment, and welfare-related concerns. During the period, patients in Ogbomoso and surrounding areas were forced to seek care elsewhere, with emergency and specialist services largely unavailable at the teaching hospital.
The doctors expressed hope that ongoing collaboration with the incoming hospital board would ensure the fulfillment of pending demands and reposition LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in line with the governor’s vision for healthcare in the state.
The suspension of the strike comes as a major relief to residents who rely heavily on the institution for affordable medical services.
