Anxiety has gripped Benue State following the sudden disappearance of two individuals, including a senior aide to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Governor Alia’s Principal Special Assistant on Youth and Media Mobilisation, Atu Terver (popularly known as Krazy T), was reported missing on Tuesday while travelling from Makurdi to Abuja. Similarly, a social media activist, Asom Jerry, has also gone unaccounted for, fueling widespread speculation about whether they were arrested by security operatives or abducted.
Speaking to Hobnob News, Terver’s wife, Civir, expressed deep worry, saying her husband had left Makurdi for Abuja but never arrived.
“The case was reported to the police in Abuja, and they said they are investigating. As of today, I still don’t have any useful information about his whereabouts,” she said, adding that no state official has reached out to her since the incident.
When contacted, Benue State Police Command spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet clarified that the case involving the governor’s aide fell under Abuja jurisdiction, while also stating she had no details regarding Jerry’s disappearance.
Efforts to reach the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Terso, were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.
Meanwhile, the Austin Agada-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has expressed concern over the development.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, the faction criticised Governor Alia’s silence, calling it “disturbing” and accusing the administration of “insensitivity and inaction.”
“The sudden disappearance of notable Benue citizens, including activist and government critic, Asom Jerry, and the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor, Atu Terver, has created fear and uncertainty among our people. These incidents strike at the heart of public trust in government and security agencies,” the statement read.
The group urged security agencies to intensify investigations, trace the missing persons, and bring perpetrators to justice, while calling on the state government to “speak up, act responsibly, and reassure citizens of their safety.”
