The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged comprehensive support to the families of its six operatives killed during a deadly ambush in Okpella, Edo State, last Friday.
Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, attacked the officers attached to the BUA Cement Factory, killing six, abducting a Chinese expatriate, and leaving several others injured. Four of the expatriate’s colleagues were, however, rescued.
In a statement, the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, directed the Edo State Command to visit the bereaved families and ensure the fallen officers are laid to rest with full burial honours.
He further assured that the corps would cover all medical bills for the injured personnel and provide welfare packages to the dependents of the slain officers.
“The labour, commitment, and patriotism displayed by our operatives will forever be remembered. Their families will not be left alone in this difficult time,” Audi said.
Confirming the development, the Edo State Command Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor, noted that NSCDC headquarters in Abuja had taken over the matter, handling both the ongoing investigation and welfare arrangements.
“Communication has been established with the victims’ families, and their welfare is being handled directly by the national headquarters,” Ogbebor explained.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified operations in the area, combing nearby forests in search of the perpetrators and working to rescue the abducted expatriate.
