The Nigerian Navy (NN) has dismissed a serving officer, a Lieutenant, for engaging in a “scandalous” sexual relationship with a colleague’s wife. The officer was also sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for the offence.
According to sources, the punishment followed the confirmation of a Special Court Martial (SCM) outcome by Naval Headquarters, Abuja. The SCM found the officer guilty on all charges, leading to his dismissal from the service and imprisonment, both effective from November 23, 2024.
The enforcement of the sentence took place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) Parade Ground in Sapele.
The Lieutenant faced a four-count charge, including: engaging in sexual relations with a service personnel’s wife, in violation of section 79 of the Armed Forces Act (AFA) CAP A20 LFN 2004; scandalous conduct contrary to section 91 of the same Act; and deceiving a witness contrary to section 122 of the Criminal Code Act CAP C380, pursuant to section 114 of the AFA.
Sources stressed that a legal review of the trial confirmed the officer was properly arraigned and that due process was followed throughout the proceedings. Consequently, the Navy Board upheld both the dismissal and the three-year prison sentence.
