Tinubu Appoints Governing Council Members for Universities, Constitutes NCC and USPF Boards

President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across key educational institutions and federal agencies, filling existing vacancies and reconstituting strategic boards.

According to Hobnob News, Chisom Obih has been appointed to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, replacing a member who passed away.

The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned communications scholar and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye currently chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography and oversees UNILAG Radio 103.1 FM and Television.

In a related development, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. Other principal officers include Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel, serves as Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He is also a member of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

President Tinubu has further approved the constitution of the boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), both under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

Idris Olorunnimbe was named Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Wada retains his role as Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, a position he has held since October 2023 following Senate confirmation.

The USPF Board was also reconstituted, with Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, serving as Chairman, and Olorunnimbe as Vice Chairman. Other members include Oshidami; Makama; Aliyu Edogi Aliyu (representative, FMCIDE); Joseph B. Faluyi (representative, Federal Ministry of Finance); Auwal Mohammed (representative, FMBNP); Uzoma Dozie; Peter Bankole; Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon; Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri; and the USPF Secretary.

Established to expand access to information and communication technologies in rural, unserved, and underserved areas, the USPF plays a critical role in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide.
