Court Bars Ogun Gov from Demolishing Gbenga Daniel’s Residence, Hotels

An Ogun State High Court has issued an ex parte order restraining Governor Dapo Abiodun and state officials from tampering with or demolishing the private residence of former governor Gbenga Daniel, as well as the Conference Hotels Limited and its annex in Sagamu.

The order was delivered on Tuesday by Justice O.S. Oloyede following a motion for an interim injunction filed by Daniel and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, through their counsel, A.M. Kotoye, SAN. The suit was directed against Governor Abiodun, the Ogun State Attorney General, the State Planning and Development Permit Authority, and the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

According to the certified true copy of the order obtained by Hobnob News, Justice Oloyede granted an interim injunction restraining the defendants and any agents, proxies, or associates from demolishing, tampering with, or disturbing the properties at Asoludero Court, Sagamu, as well as the Conference Hotels and its annex. The injunction will remain in effect pending the hearing of the motion on notice, scheduled for August 19, 2025.

In delivering his ruling, Justice Oloyede said:

“Having read the affidavit in support and the affidavit of urgency, I am satisfied that this court needed to take immediate steps to intervene in this case. Consequently, I hereby issue an ex parte interim order restraining the defendants and all persons acting on their behalf from demolishing or in any manner disturbing the properties pending the determination of the motion on notice.”

The order covers Asoludero Court, located at Block 1, Plots 7 and 8, and Block XXXVIII, Plots 1 and 12 in the amended Government Reservation Area (GRA), Sagamu, measuring approximately 1,659 hectares, as well as related Certificates of Occupancy.

The suit follows Daniel’s accusation that Governor Abiodun had ordered the demolition of his Sagamu properties via contravention and quit notices pasted on the premises on August 8, 2025. Daniel described the actions as “laughable and deeply rooted in thuggish political vindictiveness.”

However, the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tpl Tunji Odunlami, stated that the notices were part of a routine government audit of GRAs across the state and not targeted at any individual. He emphasized that property owners, including Daniel, were expected to present their documentation for verification as part of the urban renewal project.
