A forum of 2023 House of Assembly candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to defect to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group believes such a move would “connect the state to the national grid of politics” and unlock greater benefits from the Federal Government.
In a letter dated August 11 and released at a press briefing on Monday, the group’s Coordinator, Mr. Godwin Onwusi — who contested the Udi North State Constituency seat in the last election — said playing opposition had done the state “more harm than good.”
Titled Request/Appeal for You to Hook Enugu State to the National Grid of Politics by Joining Our Great Party, the All Progressives Congress, the letter read in part:
“With all humility and respect, we, the undersigned APC Enugu State House of Assembly candidates during the 2023 general elections, hereby passionately appeal to you to consider joining our great party, the All Progressives Congress.
Having watched you for just over two years since assuming office, we conclude that your visionary leadership and development-oriented policies align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The unprecedented developmental strides you have brought to Enugu State in less than two years have renewed the hope of Ndi Enugu that government can truly work for the people.”
The group further noted that Governor Mbah’s policies already reflect synergy with the Federal Government’s vision and argued that his defection would strengthen the APC’s chances in Enugu while attracting more political and economic advantages to the state.
