NYSC Member Accuses Scheme of Withholding Discharge Certificate Over Criticism of Tinubu Government

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” has alleged that the scheme is deliberately withholding her discharge certificate in retaliation for her public criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Hobnob News recalls that Ms. Uguamaye drew widespread attention earlier this year after a viral TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu government and described Lagos as a “smelling state.”

In a recent Instagram video, the corps member claimed her Local Government Inspector (LGI) refused to clear her for April, despite her presence on the scheduled date. She alleged that during the clearance exercise, she was repeatedly told to “go to the back” until her file was eventually seized. According to her, the LGI declined to attend to her and ordered her to leave.

Ms. Uguamaye further stated that she was later informed she would not receive her discharge certificate on the grounds that she missed the April clearance — an accusation she strongly denies.

“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she has decided to put the matter behind her.

As of press time, the NYSC has yet to respond to the allegations. Efforts to reach the scheme’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Edwin Megwa, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered.
