The media office of former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed claims attributed to ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, suggesting both men co-founded a new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition before expanding it to others.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, head of Fayemi’s media office, the former minister’s team said no credible evidence — including video recordings or reports from reputable outlets — had been found to support the statement circulating on social and digital platforms.
The office suggested the remarks could be fabricated, distorted, or the result of a misquotation, noting the trend of attributing false comments to public figures for malicious purposes.
“Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State,” the statement read. It added that the former governor has consistently backed the party’s ideals and challenges, and has publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election on the APC platform.
The statement also stressed that while Fayemi maintains friendships across political, religious, and regional lines, his participation in national conversations about Nigeria’s future does not equate to defection. “If he were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so,” Sajoh stated.
The media office attributed ongoing speculation about Fayemi’s party affiliation to his reduced national visibility due to his roles as a visiting professor at King’s College London and founder of the Amandla Institute. However, it said he remains active at the local level in Ekiti, attending APC leadership caucus meetings and publicly supporting the governor’s candidacy.
The statement urged the public to treat social media-only reports about Fayemi with caution.
