Sadiq Gentle, a Senior Special Reporter attached to the Kano State Ministry of History and Culture under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, has died from injuries sustained during a violent home invasion by suspected hoodlums.
According to Hobnob News, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday night when armed thugs broke into Sadiq’s residence, inflicting deep machete wounds on him before fleeing with his mobile phones and other valuables. Despite efforts to save his life, Sadiq succumbed to his injuries this morning at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
His death has sparked an outpouring of grief from colleagues, friends, and political associates, many of whom are demanding justice and a swift, thorough investigation into the attack.
In an emotional interview with DAILY POST, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, a close friend of the deceased, confirmed the passing: “It’s true, he has passed away. His condition worsened yesterday, and another surgery was scheduled for today — but Allah did not will it,” he said tearfully.
Recalling the harrowing incident, Mujtaba added, “Some thugs broke into his house on Sunday night. They stabbed him and stole his phones.”
Initial reports on Monday had pointed to the attack being carried out by suspected phone snatchers, who fled the scene after leaving the journalist critically wounded.
The killing of Sadiq Gentle adds to the growing list of violent crimes linked to phone snatching in Kano State. Earlier this week, a student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), was reportedly killed in a similar attack in Dorayi, Gwale Local Government Area.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities in Kano are yet to release an official statement regarding the journalist’s death.
Public outrage continues to mount, with many calling for urgent action to curb the rising tide of violent crime across the state.
